Carjacking is a violent crime, where a car is stolen from a person using force or coercion of a weapon.

Can occur for many reasons and the main ones are: trade of vehicle or vehicle parts on the black market, flight from a crime scene or simply for fun.

In Portugal alone, carjacking in 2007 increased 33% from the early year, according to the Annual Report of Homeland Security.
